This is the real deal! Absolutely delicious fish and chips that are guilt free! No dairy, grains, sugar, additives, eggs, or nuts! And I promise you won’t even notice!!
(for the Fish)
Wild caught cod (4 small fillets)
1/4 cup cassava flour **I added one extra tablespoon to make it super thick!
1/2 tsp Himalayan pink salt
1/3 cup of seltzer water or sparkling water
A sprinkle of arrowroot or tapioca flour for each fillet before frying
**I ended up doubling the batter and made 6 large fillets
(for the Fries)
3 white sweet potatoes
Himalayan pink salt to taste
(for the Tartar sauce)
1/2 cup of plain cocoyo coconut yogurt
1/2 cup of dill pickles, finely chopped
1 tbsp. of fresh dill, minced
1 tbsp. pickle juice
1 tbsp. of red onion, minced **I skipped the onion
1 tsp. lemon juice
1. ) I recommend starting with the tartar sauce and then letting it set in the fridge. You are literally just mixing all the ingredients in a medium bowl until incorported and setting it in the fridge.
2. ) If you can handle it I would fry the fries and the fish at the same time in separate pans. This way your fries are crispy when you go to eat. You want to fill each pan about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch deep with avocado oil. You are using a lot of oil so I would recommend buying 2 large bottles or one extra large tin. Then the fries cook for 2 minutes on each side and the fish cooks for 4 minutes on each side. I would definitely use a timer to make this super easy!
3. ) I like to salt the tops one more time before serving, then add your tartar sauce and you are ready to eat! Enjoy!!
